I stopped by a local mall today because an electronics parts place I shop at has relocated here. I knew malls were dying but this was more dramatic than I expected. Practically a ghost town. Weird.

My local mall is one of the only malls that’s still popping, and the Sears was finally closing as of a few weeks ago.
I went to Perimeter a few weeks ago, and that was still pretty alive. Some places were closed still due to corona and some stores, like Apple, had a line for temp checks, but it was otherwise hard to tell malls were dying.

There's one indoor mall in Las Cruces. I'm trying to think how many years ago it was when I was last in it. I've been to the movie theater attached to it sometime in the last few years, but it has been a long time since I sent in the mall itself.

I thought it was a prison from the main page pic.
The mall in my area just re-opened - as it is a higher end place, it is doing well in this area.

El Con Mall in Tucson has been empty, except for a movie theater, for decades. Two gangs once decided to have a shootout there.
Metrocenter in Phoenix just closed up.
There’s going to be a free drive up fireworks show at Fiesta Mall in Mesa this weekend. It closed a few years ago.

The one closest to me was transitioning over to restaurants instead of retail but with the pandemic I don’t know how that turned out. The Sears that was there predated the mall. Hell, it predated me and I’m 54. That’s closed and JC Penny isn’t exactly tearing it up either. The only other retail anchor tenant left is Macy’s and I’m not sure how that’s going to go.

Town Center and the others are oddly still doing well. I don’t get it, but I also know people who still go there, IDK why.

Ha Perimeter in Sandy Springs? Lotsa HS memories there. Lenox was more fun, then Cumberland in may-retta? Am I on right track?

The nice thing about going shopping and to restaurants at awkward times is that it’s easy for me to “social distance” from others.
As someone who regularly went to Bojangle’s and was the only customer in the restaurant most of the time, it’s understandable I was bummed when restaurants got closed for dining in. I have the most socially distant dining and retail experiences haha.

Cumberland is by The Battery and Suntrust Park, and Perimeter is in that Sandy Springs Dunwoody area.

That sucks but without all the people and clutter I’m quite digging the retro mall architecture and sunlight patterns.
I generally
like having empty/abandoned spaces to myself but the way this all
happened knowing everyone who used to work here is put a job
it’d just be dismal

Peak times defeat the purpose of going out in the first place.

Yeah, the mall is a dying thing for sure. I won't miss it.

With dine-ins at half capacity, now you’d have to wait even LONGER!

Havent lived in GA since 95. Moved to Roswell my junior year in hs, went to UGA, then moved out west.
